The Phantom Tollbooth

Shade Tree Players Children’s Theatre invites you to travel through the tollbooth and leave your boredom behind!

Shade Tree Players Children’s Theatre invites you to come meet Milo, a boy who is very, very bored in the upcoming production, The Phantom TollboothMilo travels through a tollbooth that has magically appeared in his room! From that moment on, Milo never is bored again.  You will be magically transported to the fantastical towns of Digitopolis and Dictionopolis in the storybook kingdom of Wisdom!  Performances are August 18, 19, 20 at 7:00 pm and August 21 at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are $6.00 and can be purchased between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm at Dakota Stage located at 412 East Main in Bismarck or by calling the box office at 258-4998.

The Phantom Tollbooth is the perfect show for mid-August, when kids are beginning to get just as restless as Milo as they find the summer dragging on with nothing left to do.  Imagine taking a journey with a watchdog named Tock to rescue Princess Rhyme and Princess Reason, guided by the egotistical insect, Humbug.  The characters they meet are tailor-made for fun, including a monster made of noise, a man with twelve faces and a giant bee who spells!  The play is goofy and outlandish, and as funny as it sounds, but Milo’s quest to restore peace to the land also teaches him some very important lessons about life.

The Phantom Tollbooth, adapted by Susan Nanus from Norton Jester’s classic children’s book, is a full stage production, complete with costumes, make-up, sets and a cast of 39 talented children ranging in ages from 6-16.  Co-Directing the production are Toby Miller and Laura Rysavy.
